The Benefits of Technology

Technology-based activities and tools help students learn science content, increase academic vocabulary, build background knowledge, and foster 21st century skills. Students tend to interact with each other when using technology, so these tools and subsequent assignments can also help students increase their communication skills.

Making presentations to argue a point, describe a process, or justify data challenges students to present information effectively.

Suggestions to Implement successful presentations in Science classrooms

Remember:
  • Content is the most important aspect of a presentation.
  • Form is important, but should NEVER trump the purpose of the presentation - to communicate scientific concepts or understanding

Guiding Points:
  1. Maximum of 25 words on each slide. (slides are a guide not something meant to be read)
  2. Images should provide clarity.
  3. Citations should be properly cited.
  4. Animations should not detract from the presentations.
  5. Color and font selection - the monitor doesn't necessary translate perfectly to the projection screen.
  6. Consistency - a clean look allows the audience to focus on the science content message
